HISTORY BACKGROUND OF THE GROUP.
The name Matimba is a Congolese word for creativity. The group was founded on February 12th of 2001 and was officially registered on the day of 21st May, 2011 by the Tanzanian National Arts Council (BASATA) with the registration number 1017. This is a community based group with its location at Makumbusho ward/ Kinondoni province in Dar es Salaam – Tanzania. Currently, the group has 25 members with 8 ladies and 17 males aged ranging from 15 to 31 years.
The group was established with the purpose of developing and using arts and theatre to educate and train youths in entrepreneurship and life living skills so that they can employ themselves. Also the group is aiming at addressing different social - economical problems of youths in Tanzania through arts and theater performances. The group had participated in different youth events such as AMREF, FEMINA, TAYOA and AYA events.
